John P. Van Valkenburg joined Gerten and Van Valkenburg, P.A. in 1990. His major areas of practice are probate & estate planning, real estate, business creation, and family law. John works with his clients to obtain the best outcome for their case, listening to their concerns carefully and succinctly explaining the sometimes overwhelming aspects of the law during these often emotional times. He is a trained Rule 114 Mediator. Mediation is frequently used for comprehensive resolution of issues that the parties can feel vested in.
Mr. Van Valkenburg handles probate and estate administration, ensuring his client’s needs are served during such a stressful and difficult time. His work in real estate law and small business law draw not only from his legal expertise but also his experiences as managing partner of his own small business and rental property.
Mr. Van Valkenburg graduated from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis with a B.A. in history. He earned his J.D. from William Mitchell College of Law in 1988. After graduation, Mr. Van Valkenburg was admitted to the Minnesota Bar and has practiced law for over 30 years.
Mr. Van Valkenburg is engaged in working with the community and its young people. Among his professional associations are his support for the YMCA, the Boy Scouts, Camp Ajawah, 612 Foundation for Mounds View and Irondale Schools and the Arden Hills Park and Trail Committee.
In his free time, John enjoys camping, hiking or canoeing and also traveling whenever possible. During warmer weather, you will find him biking with his family on his bike or motor scooter.
